Volunteeers Needed

Volunteers are needed to assist on May 8, 2010 from 10 am to 3 pm during the Membership Drive Event at the Wild Birds Unlimited Store at 692 Contra Costa Boulevard, Concord, CA 94523. The Membership Drive Event is held annually in conjunction with the Mothers Day Celebration. Prospective members are recruited and introduced to the various activities of MDAS. Volunteers are requested to support the event to increase the number of MDAS members.

On June 12, 2010, MDAS volunteers are being recruited to participate in the Heritage Day Event at Borgess Ranch in Walnut Creek. Heritage Day is a community event planned to educate the public about the history of Borgess Ranch, local history, and to help develop appreciation for our open space parklands. The day will include tours of the historic ranch house, music and dancing, silent movies, Western heritage videos, 4-H animaldemosntrations, kids games and crafts, pony rides, spinning, qulting, backsmithing, food, and various exhibits which include MDAS birds nests.

Volunteers are needed to help in enhancing the display board of exhibits that MDAS presents during outreach events. MDAS members who have special artistic talents are especially invited to help.

MDAS members are strongly encouraged to participate in future community events to share with the public valuable information on the conservation of birds and their habitats. Please sign-up for upcoming events that are regularly announced during the MDAS membership meetings every first Thursday of the month. Please contact Moses de los Reyes, Volunteer Coordinator, at (925) 755-3724 or at Moses_inc@comcast.net for detailed information on how to sign-up for upcoming events.

Your continued valuable participation is much appreciated.

MDAS at the John Muir Birthday - Earth Day Celebration

The Mount Diablo Audubon Society (MDAS) volunteers proudly represented the chapter at the John Muir Birthday - Earth Day celebration held on April 17, 2010 in the City of Martinez. The tremendous efforts by Donna Kramer, Diane Malucelli, Norm Kirshen, Abigail Madden, Michelle de los Reyes, and Moses de los Reyes made the fabulous event a great exposure for MDAS to the community. So many people appreciated the MDAS exhibits of birds' nests and various information on birding in Contra Costa county. Sincere appreciation is expressed by the Board of Directors of MDAS to the outstanding volunteers who continue to participate in community outreach events that highlight the meaningful contribution of the chapter in the community.

Kudos to the 14th Annual SF Flyway Festival Volunteers

Sincere appreciation is expressed to the Mt. Diablo Audubon Society (MDAS) volunteers who actively participated in the 14th Annual San Francisco Flyway Festival Saturday February 6, 2010 and Sunday February 7, 2010 from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. The volunteers greeted the many visitors of the event, shared valuable information about birds and their habitats, gave introduction about MDAS, and hosted a guessing game on the types of birds that nested in various nests. There was much excitement among the audience when they learned about MDAS' important outreach activities to different communities, especially to local schools. During the Festival, MDAS helped in sharing information on the return of millions of shorebirds and hundreds of thousands of ducks, geese, hawks, and even butterflies which migrate through Winter in the San Francisco Bay Area. MDAS members are strongly encouraged to participate in future events that highlight our chapter's presence and promotes conservation awareness and community education. MDAS is fully dedicated to habitat conservation and environmental education.

MDAS has been an active participant to the SF Flyway Festival for many years. The Festival is the only 3-day birding festival in the San francisco Bay area and Its audience has grown steadily over the last few years. The indoor activities were in Building 897 on Mare Island and many of the Festival tours left from the parking lot in front of the building. The tours allowed the guests to experience the interesting features of various areas on Mare Island that are not usually accessible to the general public. MDAS' strong participation in the Flyway Festival is an excellent outreach activity that encourages the public to get involved in the conservation of birds and their valuable habitats.

Thank You!
