ALAMEDA COUNTY

23 April  In Alameda at the Elsie Roemer Bird Sanctuary (Shoreline Dr at the foot of Broadway), a Black Skimmer was resting on a mudflat. Six Least Terns were on a spit on the pond on the bay side of Harbor Way Pkwy, beyond the airport runway.  Jean Richmond


CONTRA COSTA COUNTY

17 April  In the Pine Canyon area of Mount Diablo, A Mt Diablo Audubon Society field trip produced 62 species. Highlights included 2 Calliope Hummingbirds seen near the intersection of Stage Road and Shell Ridge Loop Trail in Diablo Foothills Regional Park, south of Castle Rock Rd from Walnut Creek. From the end of the road, walk 0.65 mile on Stage Road to the Shell Ridge Loop Trail. The birds were at the flowering black sage, 50 to 75 yards up this trail.  Hugh Harvey
