ALAMEDA COUNTY

23 February  In the Oakland Estuary (between Oakland and Alameda), a Tufted Duck was in the middle of Coast Guard Island on the east side). It was seen a little past the medical center clinic which is on the south side of the island. Ray Haysee

17 February  In Berkeley at Aquatic Park, the pair of Hooded Mergansers continue in the middle pond just north of the drive leading to Hwy 80. Ken Archibald

15 February  In Berkeley at Aquatic Park, a pair of Hooded Mergansers were just north of the road that takes you to Hwy 80. Heather B.

15 February  In Oakland at Lake Merritt, a female Tufted Duck was at the duck-feeding area behind the Rotary Nature Center in Lakeside Park. The Cattle Egret was also present. At Peralta Park, in the lake's tidal channel between 12th and 10th Sts, there were 15 Barrow's Goldeneyes. Joe Morlan

12 February  In Oakland, a Blue-winged Teal was at the north end of Edgewater Dr at Garrison Point at Martin Luther King Jr Regional Shoreline, and a Clapper Rail was underneath the boardwalk at Arrowhead Marsh. Several Greater White-fronted Goose also were present. Ken Archibald

12 February  In Fremont, a Golden Eagle and a Merlin were at the south marsh at Coyote Hills Regional Park. A Common Moorhen was at the southernmost pond back by the eucalyptus trees near the industrial site. Further along Burrowing Owl Trail, a Virginia Rail was taking over an isolated stand of cattails along the north side. Ken Archibald

2 February  In Oakland, 1 to 3 Barrow's Goldeneyes have continued at Lake Merritt since January 29. [A flock of several usually are found in the lake's tidal channel between 12th and 10th Sts, or just south of 10th St.]  Ron Thompson, Scott Kaiser

2 February  In Martinez, a male Long-tailed Duck was at Martinez Regional Shoreline with scoters and scaup just to the west of the bridges area.  Denise Wight
