ALAMEDA COUNTY

22 August  In the Oakland Hills, an adult male Black Swift was seen at 5:50 PM flying over the connector trail that leads toward Grizzly Peak from the trail between Sibley Volcanic Regional Preserve and Tilden Regional Park over the Caldecott tunnel.  Ken Archimbaud

22 August  In Berkeley, a Black Skimmer was observed flying over the weedy field between the Berkeley Marina complex and Hwy 80, then flying toward Aquatic Park. Also, a Red-necked Phalarope was in the bay at the base of the Berkeley Pier at its south side.  Brian Fitch

10 August  At Hayward Regional Shoreline in Hayward a Prairie Falcon flew over "Frank's Dump," where there were many Red Knots and other shorebirds.  Toby Romer & Claire Gallagher

6 August  At Hayward Regional Shoreline in Hayward in "Frank's Dump West" (the wetlands between Sulphur Creek and the radio towers), Red Knots, Wilson's Phalaropes, Red-necked Phalaropes, and Least Terns were present at high tide.  Jean Richmond

5 August  At Hayward Regional Shoreline in Hayward, the bird identified as a Sprague's Pipit has been viewed by many observers. It appears that it probably is a juvenile Horned Lark, but many observers continue to support the original identification.  Peter Dramer

4 August  At Hayward Regional Shoreline in Hayward, a bird identified as a Sprague's Pipit was seen at 10:50 AM. From the parking lot at the end of W Winton Ave, follow the trail south to Cogswell Marsh. Cross the first long pedestrian bridge, and turn right. The bird was foraging in the center of the trail, between the bridge and the bay.  Peter Dramer & Sheila Junge
