ALAMEDA COUNTY

19 July  In the Berkeley Hills, a possible female or immature Hooded Oriole has been hanging around a residence where they have never been observed before, drinking out of a hummingbird feeder.  Andrea Keen

18 July  At Los Vaqueros watershed near Livermore, a Phainopepla was seen along Los Vaqueros Trail on two occasions.  Larry Arabana

17 July  In Fremont, a Little Blue Heron continued at Niles Community Park. This alternate-plumaged adult is in a flood control channel near the park, off G or H St from Mission Blvd, along the levee a short distance from the parking lot. The bird has been present for several days.  Kevin Hintsa

17 July  In Albany, the Long-tailed Duck continued at the Albany Bulb in Eastshore State Park (at the foot of Buchanan St). The bird appears to be in eclipse plumage, with no flight feathers at all. It was seen with a male scaup in the little cove on the north side of the bulb.  Dennis Fourche

16 July  In Castro Valley, the Rose-breasted Grosbeak continued to be seen at a private feeder. Seen at the same feeder at different times were two juvenile grosbeaks, possibly hybrids or pure Rose-breasteds.  Kevin Hintsa

15 July  In Albany, the Long-tailed Duck continued at the "Albany Bulb." Park next to Golden Gate Fields at the foot of Buchanan St, take the path west over the old landfill and scan the shore to your right.  Christine Koundakjian

5 July  In Tilden Regional Park Nature Area in the Berkeley Hills, an adult-plumaged male Rufous Hummingbird was seen from the Lower Packrat Trail.  John Poole

2 July  In Tilden Regional Park Nature Area in the Berkeley Hills, a Northern Parula was observed singing at the south end of Jewel Lake.  Brian Fitch

1 July  In Tilden Regional Park Nature Area in the Berkeley Hills this morning, a Rose-breasted Grosbeak was seen flying back and forth across the road between the Visitor Center and Jewel Lake, just past the road to the ranger's residence.  Jane Haldane
