20 June In eastern Contra Costa County, a Black-chinned Hummingbird was at Piper Slough, just west of the end of Bethel Island Rd, and 2 Yellow-breasted Chats were singing nearby. Southeast of Byron, 2 Lesser Nighthawks were over a field north of Clifton Court Rd after 7:30 PM, nearer to Hwy J4 than to Clifton Court Forebay. 8 June In eastern Contra Costa County, 3 Lesser Nighthawks were seen at 8:30 PM by the Clifton Court Forebay. From Hwy J4 south of Byron, turn onto Clifton Court Rd. Stop after about 0.25 mile, past an area of run-down houses and bulldozers. Steve Glover
8 June Near Bay Point, a male Northern Parula was singing from oaks downslope of a small turnout on Bailey Rd by a "45 MPH" sign. From Hwy 4, take Bailey Rd south. After the last houses, a road branches to the left - continue on Bailey a bit further and watch for the turnout. Be very wary of the traffic here. Steve Glover
8 June In McNabney Marsh near Martinez, a female Great-tailed Grackle carrying nesting material is a first county nesting record. A female Blue-winged Teal with young was here, with 2 male Blue-winged Teals at the south end of the marsh. A singing male Yellow-headed Blackbird was at the north end. McNabney Marsh is at the intersection of Marina Vista and Waterbird Way. Steve Glover
1 June In eastern Contra Costa County, a singing male Indigo Bunting was at Piper Slough. From the north end of Bethel Island Rd, climb to the levee and turn left. Climb over the metal gate and continue 500 yards to a bend to the left, and another 500 yards to a bend to the right. A dirt road leads back and to the left from here, and the bird was along that trail. A single Willow Flycatcher was also at the slough. Steve Glover
