ALAMEDA COUNTY

20 February  In Oakland at Lake Merritt, the female Tufted Duck was between the island and shoreline by the Rotary Nature Center, the Greater White-fronted Goose was on the lawn area by the playground, and the Cattle Egret was on the island across from the duck feeding area. Calvin Lou

19 February  In Oakland, a female Tufted Duck was seen with scaups on the northeast arm of Lake Merritt. A Greater White-fronted Goose also was at the lake, and the Cattle Egret was still by the duck feeding area. Joe Morlan

16 February  In Berkeley, a Burrowing Owl was seen on rocks at the northern edge of César Chávez Park at the Berkeley Marina. William McCoy

15 February  In Berkeley, 6 Redhead were along the frontage road west of Hwy 80 between Ashby and University Aves. Florence Bennett

13 February  In Oakland, 2 Ross' Goose were with a large flock of Canada Geese at Martin Luther King Jr Regional Shoreline. A Burrowing Owl also was seen at the shoreline. Courtenay Peddle

6 February  In Oakland, a male Barrow's Goldeneye was at the mouth of San Leandro Creek near Arrowhead Marsh in Martin Luther King Jr Regional Shoreline. Mark Menke

19 February  In Richmond, an Oldsquaw was at Richmond Bay [Marina Bay]. From Hwy 580, take Marina Bay Pkwy south toward the bay, just stay on the road and continue past Shimada Friendship Park to where the road ends at Vincent Park. Look for the duck in the inner harbor. Lillian Fujii

15 February  In Richmond, 7 Black Oystercatchers and an Osprey were seen from the west side of Vincent Park. This is the new park at the mouth of Richmond Marina Bay (once known as Richmond Inner Harbor Basin). From Hwy 580, take Marina Bay Pkwy south and just follow its winding path to Shimada Friendship Park, then continue along the shore of Marina Bay to the parking lot at the end of the road.
