ALAMEDA COUNTY

29 November  In Berkeley, a Burrowing Owl was seen at dusk on a small peninsula jutting into the bay from the foot of Gilman St. Bob Hogan

28 November  In Fremont at Coyote Hills Regional Park, 2 Short-eared Owls were seen at midday, hunting over the grasslands on either side of the ridgeline. Look from the first peak on the Red Hill Trail north from the Nike Trail. Tim Molter

25 November  In Alameda on Bay Farm Island, 3 Hooded Mergansers were along the bicycle path in the lagoon behind the shopping center. A pair of Greater White-fronted Goose were with Canada Goose at Harbor Bay Ponds, off Harbor Bay Pkwy, 0.5 mile southeast of the ferry terminal. Tim Molter

20 November  In Alameda, the Eurasian Wigeon and 7 Brant were near the concrete breakwater at Crab Cove [Crown Memorial State Beach]. Joel Herr

13 November  In Alameda, a Eurasian Wigeon was across from the parking lot at Crab Cove. At the Elsie Roemer Bird Sanctuary (Shoreline Dr & Broadway), a jaeger sp. was seen from the viewing platform, flying by the island near the High Street Bridge. Barbara Lapp


CONTRA COSTA COUNTY

26 November  In east county, an adult male Tufted Duck was at Clifton Court Forebay. Take Hwy J4 south from Byron to Clifton Court Rd, marked by a red, white, and blue sign for "Lazy M Marina." Go east for 0.25 mile to the corner of the reservoir. Go through the gate and walk the levee along the north side of the reservoir to approach the scaup flock. Four Redheads also were here, and 3 American White Pelicans were near the intake at the southeast corner of the reservoir. Afternoon light is best. Near Oakley, a pair of Barrow's Goldeneye were in the largest sewage pond at Ironhouse Sanitary District, a Cattle Egret was in the adjacent field, and an adult Western Gull (rare in east county) was at Big Break, 0.5 mile out the Big Break Regional Trail. 6 November  In Richmond, a male Eurasian Wigeon, a young Greater White-fronted Goose, and six small-type Canada Goose were in the pond at Miller/Knox Regional Shoreline near Point Richmond. Steve Glover
