ALAMEDA COUNTY

6 September  In Fremont, a Pectoral Sandpiper was at Coyote Hills Regional Park, in the large shallow pond west of the Visitor Center. Rusty Scalf

1 September  In Berkeley, a Black-and-white Warbler was at the University of California Botanical Gardens on Centennial Dr east of campus, feeding with Bushtits in a large oak in Bed 21B of the California section. Dennis Wolff

CONTRA COSTA COUNTY

26 September  In Richmond, 2 juvenile Broad-winged Hawks flew over Miller-Knox Regional Shoreline. This area can be good for hawks (though far from the quantities in the Marin Headlands). From the first parking lot, walk across the road. Follow a trail uphill between the vegetation and the small blue-and-yellow building, aiming for the obvious gap in the hills. Turn right and go straight up the steep hill to the top, and look for hawks. Steve Glover

23 September  In Tilden Regional Park in the Berkeley Hills, a Red-eyed Vireo was along the Upper Packrat Trail, which is west of Jewel Lake. Steve Glover

3 September  On Bethel Island at Piper Slough (north end of Bethel Island Rd), there were 23 Willow Flycatchers, a Chipping Sparrow, a few Blue Grosbeaks, and a Yellow-breasted Chat. Steve Glover
