ALAMEDA COUNTY

30 March  In Oakland, an adult male Eurasian Wigeon was in the flooded field at the end of Edgewater Drive, across the freeway from the Oakland Coliseum [in Martin Luther King Jr Regional Shoreline]. No Tufted Ducks could be found in this general area. Bob Reiling

28 March  Two Greater Roadrunners and three Phainopepla were along Mines Road at mile 6.81. A Canyon Wren was at mile 13.83. [Mines Road is southeast of Livermore.] Rich Cimino

28 March  In Oakland, two male Blue-winged Teal, a Blue-winged X Cinnamon Teal, a male Eurasian Wigeon, and two Clapper Rails were at Arrowhead Marsh [Martin Luther King Jr Regional Shoreline]. In Berkeley, an Oldsquaw continued just north of the pier at the Berkeley Marina. Kevin Guse

27 March  In Fremont, a Black-and-white Warbler was seen along the Alameda Flood Control Channel, along the paved bike trail on the south side of the channel, about 0.25 mile west of Alvarado Boulevard. Joelle Buffa

27 March  Five Glaucous Gulls were off the south end of Fremont Avenue [this may be Fremont Boulevard in Fremont --Larry]. Take the dirt dike toward the pond along the bay, north of the dump. Gulls flew in from the dump and roosted on the lagoon around 4:30 PM. Mike Rogers

27 March  Along Patterson Pass Road, a female Western Tanager was in willows at mile marker 6.21. A singing Rock Wren was on the outcropping across the road. [Patterson Pass Road is east of Livermore.] Rich Cimino

26 March  In Berkeley, the Oldsquaw was seen at the Berkeley Marina. George Finger

25 March  In Berkeley, a male Costa's Hummingbird was refound in the front yard at 1061 Park Hills Road, though it was not seen until about 10:30 AM. Mike Feighner

24 March  In Berkeley, a male Costa's Hummingbird was in the front yard at 1061 Park Hills Road. The bird was chased off after 45 minutes by an Anna's Hummingbird. Bob Brandriff

21 March  In Emeryville, a male Tufted Duck continued just north of Point Emery [west end of Ashby Avenue]. Graham Etherington

21 March  A male Eurasian Wigeon was just north of the island of Arrowhead Marsh [Martin Luther King Jr Regional Shoreline]. A male Blue-winged Teal was seen from the north end of the boardwalk, accessed from Doolittle Road. Phil Gordon

19 March  In Oakland, a female Tufted Duck continued at Lake Merritt, just left of the Rotary Nature Center. A male Eurasian Wigeon was at the southernmost spit in Arrowhead Marsh [Martin Luther King Jr Regional Shoreline]. In Berkeley, a male Oldsquaw continued by the restaurant at the breakwater at the Berkeley Marina. Graham Etherington

14 March  In Emeryville, a flock of at least 27 Surfbirds and 4 Black Turnstones was seen on rocks off the Point Emery parking lot at low tide [west end of Ashby Ave]. In Berkeley, the wintering male Oldsquaw continued at the Berkeley Pier, off the west end of University Avenue. Phil Gordon

13 March  In Emeryville, a male Tufted Duck was on the bay, halfway between Powell Street and Ashby Avenue. In Berkeley, four Black Oystercatchers flew south over the Berkeley Pier, and a male Oldsquaw was seen at the Pier. In Oakland, two male Eurasian Wigeons were in the first pond on the right along the entrance to Arrowhead Marsh [Martin Luther King Jr Regional Shoreline]. Perhaps a different male Eurasian Wigeon was in the waters east of the marsh, along with a pair of Blue-winged Teal. John Luther

11 March  In Oakland, a male Eurasian Wigeon and a pair of Blue-winged Teal were seen at Arrowhead Marsh [Martin Luther King Jr Regional Shoreline]. John Luther

9 March  In Oakland, a female Wood Duck was seen on Lake Merritt, just south of the fountain along Lakeshore Drive. Carlos Davidson

7 March  In Oakland, two male Eurasian Wigeons were at Arrowhead Marsh [Martin Luther King Jr Regional Shoreline], in the southernmost pool just north of the first parking lot. In Berkeley and Emeryville, at least 42 Surfbirds were along the waterfront on and just north of Point Emery [west end of Ashby Avenue]. Two Black Oystercatchers were just south of Point Emery. 7 March  In Alameda, a pair of Black Oystercatchers were on the Alameda Naval Air Station, south of the old runway. Jim Edgar

3 March  In Berkeley, a male Oldsquaw was at the eastern end of the Berkeley Marina. ???

2 March  In Hayward, a Surfbird was at Hayward Regional Shoreline at 3:30 PM. Park at the canal at the end of West Winton Avenue and hike west to the area beyond the "Hayward Landing" sign. The Surfbird was on the outermost rock on a changing tide. Kevin Hintsa
