ALAMEDA COUNTY

28 February  In Dublin, a Ross' Goose and a "cackling" Canada Goose were with about 20 Canada Geese northwest of the El Charro [Tassajara?] exit from Hwy 580. Mike Feighner

23 February  In Oakland, a male Blue-winged Teal was at Arrowhead Marsh [in Martin Luther King Jr Regional Shoreline], north of the restrooms at the main parking lot. A male and 2 female Barrow's Goldeneyes were at the mouth of San Leandro Creek, just to the east. Jean Richmond

22 February  In Alameda, a Ross' Goose was with a flock of Canada Geese at the Crab Cove Visitor Center [north end of Crown Memorial State Beach, access on McKay Ave from Central Ave just west of Webster St]. Nick Cabanero


CONTRA COSTA COUNTY

15 February  Near Moraga, the Red-naped Sapsucker was found again at almost the same location as on 13 Feb, but this time on a small live oak just beyond the pine grove and just before the bridge. Lillian Fujii

14 February  In Martinez, an adult Franklin's Gull flew east along Carquinez Strait at Martinez Regional Shoreline, by the Solano County Line. In Oakley, a Swamp Sparrow was at Ironhouse Sanitary District. On Bethel Island, 2 White-faced Ibis flew north on Piper Slough at the north end of Bethel Island Rd. Along Delta Rd on Holland Tract, there were 52 Sandhill Cranes. Steve Glover

13 February  Near Moraga at the north end of Upper San Leandro Reservoir, a male Red-naped Sapsucker was found. From the Valle Vista staging area on Canyon Rd, take the Rocky Ridge Trail to a grove of pines. The bird was seen on a pine about two-thirds of the way through the grove. This is EBMUD watershed land, and a trail-use permit is required. Rusty Scalf, vide Lillian Fujii

7 February  In Martinez, a male Tufted Duck and a Barrow's Goldeneye were at Martinez Regional Shoreline. Follow the trail west from the main parking lot to the area of a burned-out ship. Denise Wight

3 February  In the Berkeley Hills, a Common Merganser was at Jewel Lake in Tilden Regional Park Nature Area. Charley Sellers
