ALAMEDA COUNTY

19 August  In Berkeley, a male Hooded Oriole was at Ward & Grant Sts. Ken Archibald

15 August  In Newark, a Pacific Golden-Plover was at the turnoff [from Thornton Ave?] to the Don Edwards San Francisco Bay National Wildlife Refuge. Christy Nelson

13 August  In Oakland, an immmature Golden Eagle was seen briefly in the backyard of a house at 36th St & Telegraph Ave. Alexandra Plasad

11 August  In Hayward, two Black Skimmers flew overhead near Johnson's Landing at Hayward Regional Shoreline at 7 PM. A female Blue-winged Teal was also in the area, along with an escapee Black Swan. Bo Soderstrom

5 August  In Oakland, seven Lesser Yellowlegs and a Baird's Sandpiper were in a newly reclaimed marsh near Arrowhead Marsh. From Hwy 880, take Hegenberger Rd toward the airport, just before entering the airport turn right on Doolittle Dr, then at the next opportunity turn right on Swan Way, and watch for the Martin Luther King Jr Regional Shoreline entrance on the left. From the last parking lot, walk the trail along the west side of San Leandro Creek and view the new marsh through the chainlink fence on the right. The marsh is best at high tide. Three Least Terns were along the boardwalk into Arrowhead Marsh. Phil Gordon
