ALAMEDA COUNTY

24 March  In Emeryville, a "black" Merlin was seen once again in trees by the bay at the Holiday Inn. Karen Rippens

16 March  In Emeryville, a "black" Merlin perched on the northeast corner of the Holiday Inn, then flew off to the east. Karen Rippens

8 March  In Emeryville, 6 Black Scoters and 33 Surfbirds were at Point Emery [near the end of Ashby]. Kirk Swenson


CONTRA COSTA COUNTY

19 March  In Antioch, an alternate-plumaged Red-necked Grebe was at Contra Loma Reservoir. Steve Rottenborn

15 March  In Richmond, a Red-throated Loon was in Marina Bay. John Ol???

7 March  In eastern Contra Costa County, an adult female Ruff and nearly a dozen Lesser Yellowlegs were near the north end of Jersey Island Rd. From Hwy 4 in Oakley, go east on Cypress Rd. About 1 mile along the road were 90 Cattle Egrets. Turn right on Jersey Island Rd, and follow it for 3 miles nearly to the end of the pavement - the shorebirds were in the flooded fields on the right. A pair of Barn Owls were easily visible in a metal hayshed on the left past the flooded fields. George Griffith
