ALAMEDA COUNTY

23 June  East of Livermore, up to 7 immature, 2 adult female, and 1 adult male Blue Grosbeaks were on Patterson Pass Rd near milestone 6.21. Rich Cimino

22 June  In Hayward, the Arctic Tern and Black Skimmer were seen again at Johnson's Landing at Hayward Regional Shoreline. Vernon Howe

16 June  Southeast of Livermore, the pair of breeding Bald Eagles continue to raise an eglet at Lake Del Valle. This is apparently the first confirmed breeding in the Bay Area in over 100 years. Park at the boat ramp on the east shore of the lake, and take the trail along the lake about 1 mile north to Hetch Hetchy Camp. Scope to the west, near the top of the hill that forms a saddle, and look for the nest in the middle of the large gray pine. Mike Feighner

16 June  In Hayward, the breeding-plumaged Arctic Tern and at least 1 Black Skimmer were east of Johnson's Landing at Hayward Regional Shoreline in the morning. Bob Brandriff

9 June  In Hayward, the breeding-plumaged Arctic Tern came into Johnson's Landing at Hayward Regional Shoreline in the evening. With a scope, 2 or 3 Black Skimmers also were seen from the landing. Earlier, 3 Least Terns were in the cove at the boat launching ramp between the Alameda Naval Air Station and El Encinal High School in Alameda. Joe Morlan & Jennifer Matkin

2 June  East of Livermore, 3 male Blue Grosbeaks were between mileposts 4.35 and 6.20 along Patterson Pass Rd. Rich Cimino

1 June  In Hayward, an Arctic Tern (apparently attempting to nest), an alternate-plumaged Red Phalarope, and 2 Black Skimmers were in the Johnson's Landing area at Hayward Regional Shoreline. Kevin Hintsa


CONTRA COSTA COUNTY

4 June  In eastern Contra Costa County, Blue Grosbeaks, Yellow-breasted Chats, and Black-chinned Hummingbirds continued along Piper Slough, near the north end of Bethel Island Rd. An Osprey also was seen in the area. A Yellow-billed Magpie was in willows on the east side of Bethel Island Rd, 1 mile north of the town of Bethel Island. Nathan Crawford
