| Description: | Elephant Seal Hike at Ano Nuevo (adults only)
Ano Nuevo State Reserve is home to the largest mainland breeding colony of Northern Elephant Seals in the world. During the breeding season from December through March, you must be on a Guided Walk to access the reserve; SCVAS has reserved a tour for our adult members and friends. These popular 3-mile walks, over rolling sand dunes, last about 2.5 hours and are considered moderately strenuous. We will see a variety of birds, plants, and adult and baby elephant seals. During this particular time of year, we should see mothers nursing and weaning their pups.
This tour is specifically designated for Adults only, but there are also three tours scheduled for children and families. If you would like to bring children, please request the Young Audubon tours when you call to make reservations (note: because of the heavy walking, the minimum age for this trip is 7 years old; it is up to each chaperone to make sure that their child is capable of lasting the entire trip). SPACE IS EXTREMELY LIMITED, so we can only take the first 20 people for the scheduled time. ONLY PHONE RESERVATIONS WILL BE HONORED, so please call (408) 252-3740.
